Middle School

QSID 12 and 13 Year Old Program

This two-year program challenges and prepares our 12 and 13 year old students for the rigors of Secondary school. The students have a full schedule including Literature, Writing, Mathematics, Science (Earth Science or Life Science, taught in alternating years), Cultural Studies, Art, Technology, Music, and Physical Education. Small class sizes allow teachers to differentiate instruction to meet students where they are in their academic growth. Some 12 and 13 year old students achieve higher-level mastery in Mathematics allowing them to take Secondary level Algebra for graduation credit during their 13-year-old year..

Russian, German, and French are offered as second languages as part of the World Languages requirement. Tajik classes are available after school for Tajik citizens. Intensive English is offered for students needing instruction in mastering the English language..

After school activities and sports are also offered throughout the year. These activities range from Cross Country to Model United Nations, and definitely include our Eco-Club..

Our 12 and 13 year olds leave their second year in this program feeling mentally, emotionally, and academically prepared for success in their Secondary classes..

Every child can learn—not always at the same pace, but every child is capable of learning. Teachers in our Middle School and Secondary schools provide a variety of opportunities for students to develop their strengths in Mastery Learning.

- Charlene Roberts, Middle School Teacher

Middle School is that wonderful, crazy no man's land between childhood and young adulthood.  I love teaching these students because they are so full of energy and enthusiasm.  Our program's goal is to give our middle school students the academic skills they need, and motivate them to take responsibility for their own learning.

-Taizu Wold, Director QSID

Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, and Problem Solving

A primary component of our middle school program are 21st century skills. Developing these skills helps our student to prepare for a rapidly changing future. Through project-based learning, our students are engaged in authentic, real-world learning situations.
